40 Years and Still Rockin'!

By now, most of you have heard what a resounding success the 40th Anniversary show and party at the Shepherds Bush Empire was. Special guests Ben Granfelt, Mark Birch & Spam Spence did an incredible job and their contributions to the long history of Wishbone Ash® shine as brightly today as they did then. 'Thank you guys, for lending your time and talent in making this such a special event'.

The Shepherds Bush show was more than a party, it was a celebration of the rich 40 year history of Wishbone Ash®. But more importantly, it was about you, the fans, who have supported Andy and the guys over the years. A lot has changed since the bands inception back in 1969, but the one constant? Andy Powell & his dedication to the music and the fans. It has never wavered. He may be the soul & inspiration of the band, but due credit must be given to Bob, Muddy, and Joe, for they are most certainly the heart. 'You guys rock!'

The first time I saw the band back in 1971 in Alexandria, VA. It was magic, pure and simple. The stacks of Orange Amps, Andy's long flowing hair & plaid pants (tartan trews), and the incredible interplay and harmony guitar work with Ted Turner was a fresh new sound. Martin's distinctive bass style and Steve's jazz oriented rock drumming are now enshrined in rock history. Today, that same magic is still there when the man with the flying V hits the stage with Bob, Muddy & Joe. Actually, this is the band that I would have expected the originals to have evolved into. We are so fortunate that Mr. Powell never threw his hands up, when things looked bleak, and dissolved Wishbone Ash forever. Life without the music of WA would not be the same. Wishbone Ash®, the music, magic and its continued success lie on the shoulders of Andy Powell and for this we should all be eternally grateful.

Cheers,
LeonT

Thanks Leon! I couldn't let things go without returning the compliment. You too, have never wavered in your support for the band and its music, since your early days as head of our promotion campaigns for MCA Records on those first US tours. You never just talk the talk, you get out there and make things happen as you always have - starting with the creation of our very own website back in the day!

Anyway, on to current activities scheduled from now all the way through, leading up to AshFest, in a year's time:

* Next week we play the Working Class Hero Festival in Norway (very apt).
* A special show in France on June 13th at the invitation of the mayor of Mezidon in Normandy
* 9 days rehearsal and recording in Normandie at Blangy Le Chateau, where ideas will be thrashed out for the new Ash CD, as well coinciding with the production of a DVD documentary of the actual creative process. This is something that many people ask us. "How DO you write a song?" Here, we'll show that actual process and the result will be included alongside the finished CD.
* Many of you now realize that the recent successful London 40th anniversary show was videoed - so we'll be mixing and editing that very soon. It was shot in high definition and recorded in surround sound, so expect even better quality than recent releases.
* Various pending festival dates in Belgium, Holland and Germany.*Some Dutch club dates in August
* 6 shows in Poland are planned for September.
* Our customary UK tour is planned for the whole of October with those lovable Hamsters providing support on 14 of the shows, no doubt bringing along a large contingent of their army of fans.
* Still working on finalizing a USA tour for December. It's looking good - economy permitting.
* Directly after Christmas, we hit Germany and Scandinavia hard, with 6 weeks of solid touring with the customary skiing break in the middle, during Carnival.
* Then, on to the UK again for our usual Spring tour.

Phew.. some time in that period, as I mentioned, we have to complete the new CD and DVD. So, you can see it's a full-on program and I for one, wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, I forgot to mention for any Irish fans, I'll be appearing in the Emerald Isle with the Pat MacManus Band during the early part of August for a few dates. We'll play some Ash, some standards and no doubt a couple of Rory songs. Pat's an accomplished traditional fiddle player, as well as being a serious rock guitarist, so I'm hoping I'll be able to persuade him to rock out on the fiddle on a couple of Bare Bones style tracks with me.

That's the latest and I'll be updating you further, as we go but don't forget that AshFest will be the absolute culmination of all this hard work where we intend to have big fun and wrap up a year's worth of celebrations. We look forward to seeing you there and the first round of drinks is on me! (I'm really generous when the bar is all inclusive)

Best Bones ~ A.P.

The 40th Anniversary Celebration Continues At
AshFest 2010 in St. Lucie, Florida!

Celebrate Wishbone Ash's 40 Year History
With Us in the Warm Florida Sun

This is it! The event of the year! If you thought Shepherd's Bush was something, this is going to blow your mind. And the best part is you're all invited to join in the fun and music for a 3 day AshFest at the beautiful Club Med Sandpiper in St, Lucie, Florida.

To all who attended the last AshFest in Florida, you already know how great the experience was. This time, however, we are working very hard to make this event even bigger and better then the last and the one you'll be talking about for years to come.

First off, the Club Med Sandpiper is an all inclusive resort. What that means is that once you check in to the resort you can put your wallet in the safe as you won't be needing it. Your first class Room, Gourmet Food, Top Shelf Liquor, the Florida Sun & activities are all inclusive at a very reasonable price, starting at only $799 plus $35.00 membership per person. Plus, you will be treated to two concerts by Wishbone Ash® (acoustic & electric) and a Jam Session on the final night.

We are in the process of inviting some very special guests; former members of Wishbone Ash®, to join in the fun. Three of which live in the USA, one from Finland, and three from the UK. I'm not at liberty to say who has been invited at this time, but you can be sure these invitees are at the top level of Wishbone Ash's legacy of great musicians.

Your AshFest Weekend will include:

* Two exclusive concerts & Jam Session with special guests & attendees
* Two Private cocktail parties
* Commemorative T-Shirt
* photos with the band
* Meet and Greet
* Q & A session with the band
* Wishbone Ash® Memorabilia Auction
* Gourmet dining throughout the day
* Full open bar with premium beverages
* Sporting activities such as: Swimming, fitness classes, sailing, water skiing, tennis, golf, rollerblading and Circus school (Joe's Favorite) and much more
* Children's programs and activities for all ages starting at 4 months.
* Tennis academy and professional golf lessons

Two years ago at the last AshFest, one of the highlights was when Dane and Ginger renewed their marriage vows. If anyone would like to do the same or get married at AshFest, let us know and we'll make it so. You can't get a better band then Andy, Bob, Muddy and Joe to play at your wedding.

AshFest 2010 is a year away, but in order for us to pull everything together, including our special guest, it's up to the fans to start committing to this fabulous event. In order to make this dream event a reality, OceanConcerts and Wishbone Ash® have come up with an easy way to book your reservations directly through the OceanConcerts web site, OceanConcerts.com, and PayPal. We have even set up a payment plan for those interested as to not take such a big bite out of your wallet all at one time.

If you have signed up for AshFest 2010, and live outside of the UK, we ask that you hold off on booking your airline reservations at this time just in case we don't get the proper amount of folks to commit to this once in a lifetime event and it needs to be canceled. We will give you updates on the status of AshFest over the next couple of months as to it's current status and when to book airline reservations. For those living in the UK planning on attending, please see the message below.

THIS JUST IN!
